Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions
Q
I am getting an error message: Error Code: F002
A
That means you need to download the powergate 3 software. Go back to the instructions and read them again. Downloading and installing the powergate 3 software is the first step. Here is a link to the instructions………
Q
Just curious, are there any details on the specifics on the 2009-2014 Jetta tune in regard to performance changes or is it pretty close to the stock tune?
A
Your tune is equivalent to a stage one tune, which gives you increased horsepower and about on average 20% MPG fuel economy depending on a few different factors. If you go easy on the throttle you will get the best mileage and if you want power it will be there.
Q
Does the tune change the dual clutch transmission performance any? I don’t like that my Jetta’s stock tune always wants to launch in 2nd gear unless I come to an absolute complete stop. I usually end up driving in Sport mode to prevent that when I’m driving around town.
A
Regarding the transmission, that is how they work, if you would like it to function differently you would have to get your transmission directly tuned. You can take it into a place that does it and they will hook right up to the transmission and tune it.
Q
Will my tuner arrive with my tune loaded on it?
A
Nothing comes loaded on the tuner. There is only one tuner that will tune TDI’s and it requires you to plug it into your car and take what is called a read of your stock tune. You then email us that stock tune and we will modify it and send it back to you. When you send it to us you can inform us how you would like it tuned.
Q
The extra tune, is there a switch or something to switch between different tunes?
A
Unfortunately you cannot select tunes on the fly with these vehicles and tuners. The tunes are loaded onto the powergate 3 and then you choose the tune you wish to drive with. You can purchase several tunes depending on what you want and then each tune is separate on the powergate 3 for you to choose from.
Q
Does this tune include the DSG transmission tune?
A
Our tuning has been fine tuned so it doesn’t need a DSG tune unless you plan on making more power than a stage two would make
Q
What kind of added power do your tunes provide?
A
Without any upgrades you can achieve about 50Hp and 100ftlbs more at the wheels or more each car is a little different even though they are the same and built in the same place .You will also see about 20% better MPG depending on a few different factors.
Q.
There is an add-on option for an additional tune and I was wondering what the additional tune is.
A
The power gate tuner comes with four modified tuning slots, the stock tune is automatically saved to the powergate 3. And one modified tune is included with the purchase of a powergate 3 because you cannot purchase a powergate 3 without a tune coming with it.
So “an additional tune” is another tune in one of those extra slots. Your additional tune can be your choice of either an economy, stage, one or stage two. If you want any of the other add-ons, you must include them in your purchase and then we can add them to your additional tune, how you choose.
Q
Do I need to leave the tuner plugged in to the car?
A
The tuner is used just to tune the car, it can hold 6 tunes in total, that you can change between as you like. It plugs into the OBD 2 port for tuning and after tuning is done it can be stored until you want to change tunes, it doesn’t need to stay plugged in.
Q
Do you offer a tune that does not require the additional tuning of the DSG?
A
DSG tuning is not necessary with our tunes until you start upgrading parts like turbos or other large power upgrades. Until then you will not notice the difference.
Our tunes have finely tuned smooth power delivery which is not only much easier on all of your cars components, this also ensures the output never exceeds the limits set in the transmission and therefore if you are tuned by us there is no advantage to tuning the DSG until you start building the car past stage two which requires a bigger turbo, fuel pump, upgraded clutch, head studs etc.
Q
Currently the intake manifold needs to be replaced runners( swirl flaps) Can this be deleted out? I’m not sure what position the runners are in when disconnected, Can they be removed?
A
Yes, all the flaps fail open. So they can all be deleted however if the throttle body, aka anti shudder valve is still working I would recommend leaving that in but everything else the tuning can do.
Q
I believe there are 4 EGT sensors in the DPF. What do you guys keep? Guessing primary 02 sensor and one EGT sensor orange connector? I’m not sure what you guys do? Are the pressure sensors deleted, disconnected?
A
We only remove DTC’s related to the equipment we are disabling. Only the one EGT sensor is kept and is located in the exhaust manifold (any others would be redundant and not measure the temperature in a correct location. The upper Lambda aka 02 sensor is kept live. The rest of the sensors related to the exhaust are removed.
Q
What is the popcorn limiter?
A
The popcorn limiter limits the revs to about 4K and it makes pop sound at the same time
Q
What is the free flow dpf box?
A
The free flow box is just cosmetic (a stainless steel box that looks like a DPF welded around the Downpipe)
Q
So I already have a tune on my 2014 vw golf and I’m wondering how to get you my factory tune
A
Just plug the powergate 3 into the obd 2 port and press “tuning” then you should have At the top the “original tune” click on that and follow the prompts to complete tuning the car back to stock. Here are the powergate 3 instructions….
Q
Do I need to delete the EGR cooler?
A
It’s not necessary to delete the cooler. It can stay in place because the tuning disables it.
Q
Can I use the handheld tuner I bought from you on another car?
A
Alientech built them so only one car can be tuned per powergate 3. They can be erased once. But the tuned car is tuned back to stock otherwise it won’t let you erase it.
Q
So how much of a difference between an Eco and a stage 1?
A
An eco tune is mainly just stock parameters with deletes. This will make your fuel efficiency better but not increase performance noticeably
When we increase performance the fuel efficiency will get better again. We won’t give you a tune that will be more than your car can handle with stock components.
We recommend a tune that would be comparable to a stage 2, if you go easy on the throttle you will get the best mileage and if you want power it will be there. Even if you have a heavy foot you will get better fuel economy with a performance increasing tune than just an eco tune.
Q What does a stage 1 tune do?
A
Our staging is structured differently than most tuning companies. We only have three stages stage one is classified by having a stock turbo charger on the vehicle. Stage 2 is classified by having an upgraded turbo charger. stage 3 would be a custom hi Power Build.
Q
What is the blue 90 degree plastic elbow for?
A
The blue 90 degree elbow is for if you decided to remove the EGR cooler, it is not necessary to remove the EGR cooler and it is a lot of extra work unless you are already doing work in that area.
Q
What is dynamic idle?
A
Dynamic idle makes the vehicle idle at a higher rpm until it warms up in order to make it warm up faster.
Q
Regarding the 2012 – 2015 Touareg delete and tuning package – Does this include the tune that deletes the DPF/DEF and EGR? And is there a hose kit to reconnect the coolant once the EGR is removed?
A
Yes it will delete the DPF and DEF and disable the EGR. On these vehicles it’s uncommon to remove the EGR cooler or put block off plates in. Our tuning keeps the valves closed so you will not have any exhaust gas going back into the intake. It’s a considerable amount of extra money and work to remove the EGR cooler for no real gain.
