Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions

Q

What are the specifics on the 2009-2014 Jetta/Golf/Beetle/Audi A3 tune?

A

The tune is equivalent to a stage one tune, which gives you increased horsepower and about on average 20% MPG fuel economy depending on a few different factors. If you go easy on the throttle you will get the best mileage and if you want power it will be there.

Q

My phone will not pair with the Powergate 4 what do I do now?

A

Uninstall the powergate app.

Turn your phone off for at least 5 minutes.

Turn the router that your phone is connected to off for at least 5 minutes.

Then turn the router back on, then turn the phone on and then reinstall the app and try again.

Q

I have a code and CEL after installing my tune, what now?

A

Please take a screenshot of the code or codes and send it/them to us via email to dieseldnatuning@gmail.com  Please include your name and/or order number, or serial number of the PWG4 in the email.

Q

I have a 2015 VW Passat/Jetta which kit do I need?

A

Here is a link to the kit you will need for your vehicle. To ensure proper fitment please send us your VIN.

Q

I have a 2015 Golf which kit do I need?

A

Here is a link to the kit you will need for your vehicle. To ensure proper fitment please send us your VIN.

Q

I’m trying to tune and am getting error code “113” device not registered please contact your manager. What do I do now?

A

We need to register the powergate4 device. Please take a photo of the serial number on the back of the device and email it to us.

Q

My vehicle year is not in the list when I am selecting the vehicle to tune.

A

Please choose the vehicle that is older than the vehicle you have. This list is “from” a certain year. For example if you have a 2011 Passat TDI you would choose the vehicle “from 2009”.

Q.

What is a DSG tune?

A

In simple terms, a DSG is two separate manual gearboxes (and clutches) contained within one housing and working as one unit. It was designed by BorgWarner and is licensed to the Volkswagen Group. By using two independent clutches, a DSG can achieve faster shift times and eliminates the torque converter of a conventional automatic transmission.

A DSG tune (or TCU Tune) is a software modification applied to the transmission’s computer, known as the TCU (Transmission Control Unit). It is not an engine tune; it is a separate tune specifically for the transmission.

Q

What are the benefits of a DSG tune?

A

The primary purpose of the DSG tune is to fine tune the increased torque produced by an engine tune.

Optimized Shift Points:
The DSG tune optimizes the transmission’s shift points to match the engine’s new power band. This means smoother, faster, and more decisive shifts when driving spiritedly, improving the overall feel of the car.

Increased Clutch Pressure:
The tune increases the hydraulic clamping pressure on the internal clutch packs. This is critical to prevent the clutches from slipping under the higher torque loads of the tuned engine, protecting the transmission from premature wear.

From the factory, the DSG gearbox has a software-limited maximum torque capacity (approximatley around 258 lb-ft / 350 Nm on the 2.0L TDIs).

A DSG tune safely raises this torque limit within the TCU software, allowing the gearbox to handle the engine’s new, higher output reliably.

We offer specialized DSG tunes that pair perfectly with our TDI engine maps to deliver maximum performance.

Q

Do I need to leave the tuner plugged in to the car?

A

The tuner is used just to tune the car.  It plugs into the OBD 2 port for tuning and after tuning is done it can be stored until you want to change tunes, it doesn’t need to stay plugged in.

Q

Currently  the intake manifold  needs to be replaced  runners( swirl flaps) Can this be deleted out? I’m not sure what position the runners  are in when disconnected,  Can they be removed?

A

Yes, all the flaps fail open. So they can all be deleted however if the throttle body, aka anti shudder valve is still working we would recommend leaving that in but everything else the tuning can do.

Q

What sensors need to be reconnected after the install?

A

The only sensor that needs to be reinstalled after the delete is just the upstream O2 sensor aka Lambda right after the turbo.

Q

What is the popcorn limiter?

A

A Popcorn Limiter (also known as a Hardcut Limiter) is a custom feature which is an addon to the ECU tune that modifies the engine’s rev-limiter behavior to produce a distinct, aggressive exhaust sound—often described as sounding like rapid-fire popcorn popping.

The tuner programs the ECU to cut the fuel to the engine intermittently when the engine revs hit the programmed limit.
When the fuel is cut in this hard, on-off cycle, the remaining unburnt fuel and exhaust gas exiting the cylinder create the sharp, loud, popping sound in the exhaust system.

Q

My engine code is not in the list of vehicles for the tune.

A

The engine code is not crucial, please choose the vehicle that is the same year or older than your vehicle.

Q

Do I need to delete the EGR cooler?

A

It’s not necessary to delete the cooler. It can stay in place because the tuning disables it.

Q

Can I use the handheld tuner I bought from you on another car?

A

Yes, you can use the Powergate 4 tuner on another vehicle however you will not be able to make further tuning modifications on the previous vehicle after the Powergate 4 device has been reset.

Q

I was installing the tune and kept getting an error during the “preparing to write” section that would send me back to the start page. There didn’t seem to be an option for doing anything about it.

A

The voltage shows 14.4 volts when you were trying to tune your vehicle. Make sure that you DO NOT turn on the ENGINE, just the IGNITION when it says turn on ignition.

Q

So how much of a difference between an Eco and a stage 1?

A

An eco tune is mainly just stock parameters with deletes. This will make your fuel efficiency better but not increase performance noticeably

When we increase performance the fuel efficiency will get better again. We won’t give you a tune that will be more than your car can handle with stock components.

We recommend a tune that would be comparable to a stage 2, if you go easy on the throttle you will get the best mileage and if you want power it will be there. Even if you have a heavy foot you will get better fuel economy with a performance increasing tune than just an eco tune.

Q What does a stage 1 tune do?

A

Our staging is structured differently than most tuning companies. We only have three stages stage one is classified by having a stock turbo charger on the vehicle. Stage 2 is classified by having an upgraded turbo charger. stage 3 would be a custom hi Power Build.

Q

What is the blue 90 degree plastic elbow for?

A

The blue 90 degree elbow is for if you decided to remove the EGR cooler, it is not necessary to remove the EGR cooler and it is a lot of extra work unless you are already doing work in that area.

Q

What is dynamic idle?

A

Dynamic idle makes the vehicle idle at a higher rpm until it warms up in order to make it warm up faster.

Q

Regarding the 2012 – 2015 Touareg delete and tuning package – Does this include the tune that deletes the DPF/DEF and EGR? And is there a hose kit to reconnect the coolant once the EGR is removed?

A

Yes it will delete the DPF and DEF and disable the EGR. On these vehicles it’s uncommon to remove the EGR cooler or put block off plates in. Our tuning keeps the valves closed so you will not have any exhaust gas going back into the intake. It’s a considerable amount of extra money and work to remove the EGR cooler for no real gain.
